As workers who serve the public on a daily basis, CUPE members are on the front lines of public health crises, and the current onset of the coronavirus is no different. The airline industry has been particularly hard hit since the Canadian government updated its travel instructions for China and advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel to China. I thank the cabin crew and other workers who, despite the risks, have attacked this outbreak. I understand the stress and confusion this creates and encourage our members to use the union`s resources and expertise. Our local airlines and components monitored the situation closely, communicated with our members and advised them as best they could with the help of our health and safety specialists. The agreement provides for a salary increase of 11.5% over the duration of the contract, an adjustment of the crafts in the first year and a retroactive reimbursement to 1 January 2019.
